Short answerFor a small business in Dubai, SEO starts with ten checks: Google can find and index your pages, the mobile version has the same content, every page has its own title and description, each service has its own page, headings and links are clear, images have short descriptions, your Business Profile is complete, Arabic pages are labelled if you have them, Search Console is set up, and you avoid bought links. Google says changes can take hours to months to show.
An owner in Business Bay searches for their own company on Google and finds the website on page two, under three competitors. Nothing is broken. A few basic things were never done. This checklist covers them in the order that matters.
1. Can Google find your pages?
Google says it finds pages mainly through links from pages it already knows. Type site: followed by your web address into Google. If your pages appear, they are indexed. If they do not, look for a robots.txt file that blocks them, a missing sitemap or a site that nobody links to. Google's guide also says there is no guarantee that any page is added to its index.
2. Is your mobile site complete?
Google uses the mobile version of a page to index and rank it. Make sure the phone version has the same content, the same titles and descriptions, the same structured data and the same robots settings as the desktop version. Do not hide main content behind a tap that Google cannot trigger.
3. Does every page have its own title and description?
The title is the clickable line in the results. Google recommends titles that are unique to each page, clear, concise and accurate. A good description is short, unique to the page and names its most relevant points. Google may write its own snippet from the page text, but a good description gives it a good option.
4. Does each service have its own page?
One page that lists everything you do answers no question well. A page for each service, and for each area you serve, answers one. “Teeth whitening in Jumeirah” deserves its own page, with the price, the process and a way to book.
5. Are headings and links clear?
Headings help people scan a long page. Google does not mind about their order and sets no ideal number. Links matter more: Google says they are crucial for discovery, and descriptive link text tells people and search engines what the next page contains. “See our hair colour prices” works better than “click here”.
6. Do your images have a short description?
Give every image a short, descriptive alt text that says what it shows and how it relates to the page. It helps people who use screen readers, and it tells Google what the image is about.
7. Is your Google Business Profile complete?
For a business with a shop, a clinic or an office, the Business Profile matters as much as the website. Follow the steps in how to rank higher on Google Maps in Dubai.
8. If you have Arabic pages, are they labelled?
Give each language its own address and mark the versions with hreflang, so that Google shows the right one to the right person. We explain it in Arabic and English websites in the UAE.
9. Is Google Search Console set up?
Search Console is Google's free tool that shows which searches bring people to your site, which pages are indexed and what is wrong. Set it up once and look at it monthly.
10. Are you avoiding shortcuts?
Google's spam policies describe buying links to manipulate rankings as link spam, unless the links are marked with rel="nofollow" or rel="sponsored". They also describe generating many pages mainly to manipulate rankings as scaled content abuse, including with generative AI. A few pages that help people beat a hundred pages that do not.
How long does it take?
Google's beginner guide says some changes take effect in a few hours and others can take several months, and suggests waiting a few weeks before judging an edit. It also says there are no secrets that automatically rank a site first. Work through the list, measure, and expect a gradual change.

- Look at the title of each page in your browser tab and make each one different.
- List your services and areas, and note which ones have no page of their own.
- Open Search Console and look at the searches that already bring visitors.
Questions
How do I check whether Google has indexed my website?
Search Google for site: followed by your web address. If your pages are listed, they are indexed. Search Console's URL Inspection tool shows the status of a single page.
How long does SEO take?
Google says some changes show within hours and others can take several months, and suggests waiting a few weeks before judging a change. Nobody can promise a position.
Do I need to hire an SEO specialist?
Not for the basics on this list. Google's guide says a professional can help if you are short on time or prefer not to do the work yourself. Ask what the project includes and what the report will show.
Is it fine to write my pages with AI?
Google's spam policies target large numbers of pages made mainly to manipulate rankings, including with generative AI. Pages written to help your customers and checked by a person are a different matter.
Do I need to buy links to rank?
No. Google treats buying links to manipulate rankings as link spam unless the links are marked nofollow or sponsored. Clear pages that people want to link to are the safer route.
